Goldmark Jewellers was set up in 1991 by brother and sister Derek Egan and Marie Cronin. The Egan family's history in the jewellery business began with Derek and Marie's grandfather. He trained as a watchmaker in McDowells of O’Connell Street, Dublin, then set up his own jewellery business in Ballaghadereen, a small market town of Ballaghadereen in the west of Ireland. The family shop passed to Aidan Egan and June Egan in the 1970s and now is run by Marie and Derek's brother Aodhan. There are now four generations of jewellers in the family. Derek trained as a watchmaker and further developed his craft of making and repairing jewellery over the years working at the bench, while Marie runs the shop day to day We are delighted to have built up a strong reputation here in Carlow and have many loyal customers. We've served multiple generations of families here in our nearly 35 years in business so far. Repairs are done on-site which means Goldmark can offer a quicker turnaround time.
Derek is a qualified horologist (watchmaker) although these days spends more time making and crafting jewellery. A specialism is creating a new and personalised pieces using customer's own gold.
